2024 GSA Shanghai Audition

Shanghai Audition information:
Date: April 1, 2024,
Time: Sign-in starts at 9 am, audition starts at 9.30 am
Venue: Shanghai Culture Square - WE Theatre (Rehearsal Hall A), Shanghai Cultural Square, 36 Yongjia Road, Shanghai, China
Audition registration: Candidates need to register through University of Surrey GSA official website registration system. Only candidates who have successfully booked and paid for the Shanghai Audition can participate. (Please note that those who have not registered online in advance will not be able to attend the audition).
Applicants can audition for:
Musical Theatre Foundation Course
Musical Theatre BA Course (Applicants for BAMT need to have completed their First Round and be invited to Recall before attending the Shanghai Audition. )
Musical Theatre MA/MFA Course
GSA staff prefer candidates to audition live, rather than online, as it allows a more comprehensive assessment of the training needs.
Audition process:
Please arrive at the waiting room "We Theater" at 9 am to sign in. The We Theatre is located next to Xiaobai Cafe in the open area of the sunken circular corridor of Shanghai Cultural Square Theatre.

After the sign-in, the audition helper will lead the candidates into the main studio.
Main Studio
This audition will consist of the following parts:
09:30 - 11:00 Dance Call - The audition will be conducted in the form of a workshop
11:30 - 13:00 Singing Call
13:30 - 15:00 Acting Call
15:00 - 16:00 Interviews (Selected candidates will be invited to participate in the Interview session)
*Please note we will be filming for the purposes of assessment for staff on the rest of the UK judging panel. By attending to this audition, candidates are agreed to be filmed.
Guildford School of Acting (GSA) is a drama school in Guildford, Surrey, England. It is an academic school in the University of Surrey. It is a member of the Federation of Drama Schools.
GSA is ranked 3rd in the UK for dance, drama and cinematics in The Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide 2024, and 5th in the UK for drama and dance in the Guardian University Guide 2024.
The school was founded as the Grant-Bellairs School of Dance and Drama in London in 1935. At the outbreak of World War II it relocated to Guildford. From 1945 to 2010 the school was housed in the former St Nicholas parish hall and working men's club at Millmead Terrace. In 1964, the school was renamed the Guildford School of Acting and Dance. In the 1990s, the word "Dance" was removed from the title, allegedly because former student Bill Nighy referred to it as the "Guildford School of Twirlies". In 2009 the school became part of the University of Surrey and in 2010 moved into new purpose-built accommodation next to the refurbished Ivy Arts Centre, formerly the sports centre, on the Stag Hill campus.
